Systems of angle measurement are discussed, most particularly the conversion from degrees, minutes, and seconds to grads or gons. The geometry of a simple right-angle triangle solution is covered including knowledge of the concepts of the slope. Or stepping lightly into trigonometry, suggestions about how the trig functions can also be used. This is done to help the learner understand the relationship between the slope and the tangent trigonometric function. Determining the angles of intersection between a line and two parallel lines and also a line intersection between two non-parallel lines are covered to help the learner to visually relate to figures and to also convert what they know about bearings and azimuths into known information used to calculate angles of intersection. The process of converting degrees, minutes, and seconds to decimal degrees and vice versa is discussed. Running time 27 minutes.

You will learn…

  • Systems of angle measurement including degrees, minutes and seconds, and grads
  • Solving simple right triangle problems using the Pythagorean theorem and slope values
  • Calculating process for angles of intersection between one line and two other parallel lines
  • Calculating process for angles of intersection between a line and two other non-parallel lines
  • The conversion process to interchange degrees, minutes, and seconds values to decimal degrees and vice versa
